Meet Maurice

Maurice is a proud recipient of the Queens Diamond Jubilee Award recognizing his 40 years of dedication and work in the Community. As a long term Pickering resident, who has lived in Ward 1 for over 30 years, he knows the community and has dedicated his adult life working to build and inclusive community while strengthening local neighbourhoods.

Maurice and Anne, have a blended family, 4 adult children who grew up in Pickering and now have their own lives and careers. As grandparents to 3 beautiful grandchildren, Maurice and Anne recognize the importance of a balanced lifestyle that ensures quality time to still enjoy family while individually and collectively remain committed to giving back to the community.

Maurice represented Ward 1for 21 consecutive years, 1985-2006 , as the Local/City Ward 1 Councillor and as Ward 1 Regional Councillor and returned to Council In 2016 following a By-Election.

He has served as, an Acting and Interim Mayor, Vice President of Veridian, Chair of Sustainable Pickering, President of Durham Regional Non-profit Housing, Co-Chair of Pickering Ajax Transit and has been a member of a number of City and Regional Committees and is currently a member of the Pickering Library Board.

Outside of the Council Chamber, Maurice’s career involves Community Advocacy and Human Rights, After retiring as a Managing Director for Human Rights, Diversity and Fairness, Maurice is now self employed as a Senior Human Rights Consultant working to promote Equality and Fairness across Canada.
